CT Angiography

Advanced CT Angiography

At Vascular Clinic, we offer expert CT angiography using the latest scanning technology, delivered by our consultant vascular surgeon Mr. Maziar Mireskandari. This advanced, non-invasive test provides clear and detailed images of your blood vessels, allowing for accurate diagnosis and the best possible care plan.

What is CT Angiography?

CT angiography, also known as CTA, uses a special X-ray scanner and contrast dye to create precise images of blood vessels throughout the body. It is an essential tool for identifying blockages, narrowing, aneurysms, and other vascular conditions, helping to guide treatment decisions with confidence.

Our CT angiography service can focus on specific areas of the body, depending on your symptoms or what your doctor is looking to investigate:

Carotid and Brain CT Angiography
This scan examines the carotid arteries in the neck and major vessels in the brain. It is used to detect narrowing, blockages, aneurysms, and other abnormalities that could increase the risk of stroke.

Aortic CT Angiography
This test focuses on the aorta, the largest artery in the body, to check for aneurysms, dissections, and other abnormalities in the chest or abdomen.

Lower Limb CT Angiography
This scan evaluates the arteries in your legs, helping to diagnose peripheral arterial disease, narrowing, blockages, or other causes of leg pain or poor circulation.

  • Consultant-Led Care: Every scan is performed and reviewed by Mr. Maziar Mireskandari for expert accuracy and clinical oversight.

  • State-of-the-Art Equipment: We use modern CT scanners for the highest resolution images available.

  • Minimal Wait Times: Private appointments with flexible scheduling and rapid access to results.

  • Personal Support: Our team is committed to your comfort, privacy, and peace of mind throughout your visit.

  • Full Explanation: Results are clearly explained and any recommended next steps are discussed with you directly.

  • Clothing: You may need to change into a gown and remove any metal objects, such as jewellery or belts.

  • Diet: For some scans, you may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a few hours beforehand. You will be advised in advance if this applies to you.

  • Allergies and Medications: Please inform us of any allergies, especially to contrast dye or iodine, and bring a list of your current medications. Continue your usual medications unless advised otherwise.

  • Medical History: Tell your consultant if you have kidney problems, diabetes, or are pregnant.

  • You will lie comfortably on the CT scanner table. An intravenous line may be placed in your arm for the contrast dye.

  • The scanner takes a series of X-ray images as the contrast dye moves through your blood vessels. The dye may cause a warm sensation for a few seconds.

  • The test is quick and painless. Most scans take between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the area being assessed.

  • You can communicate with the team throughout the procedure.

  • Most patients can return to normal activities straight away.

  • If contrast dye is used, drink plenty of water afterwards to help flush it from your system.

  • Your consultant will review the results and discuss them with you. A written report is provided along with recommendations for any further treatment or follow-up if required.

CT angiography is a safe and well-tolerated test. Risks are very low but may include mild allergic reactions to the contrast dye or, rarely, effects on kidney function. There is a small amount of radiation involved with a CT scan. If you have any specific health concerns or allergies, please let our team know before your appointment.
